Art by Duy Truong.... Poster size......With this piece of art, I would like to mention that it was my hope that we could take children's illustration to a higher standard. Rather than meeting deadlines, I wanted my artists to do their very best to create a work of art that would endure the passage of time. The stories are timeless, and with any luck, these stories would be my legacy. When Duy began sending off the drafts on this one I was very excited as I could see this would be one of her classic interior scenes. At one point she asked, "What time of day is it?" I told her that I greatly anticipated light beaming through the window. Duy was a master of lighting and when one examines her art, you can see it runs through all her pieces. ...

Art by Duy Truong......... Our men moved the frontal barrier aside and the defeated Austrians walked through it. We led them to a meadow and had them sit. William Tell told me that Duke Leopold had not made it to the barrier. He and a few men were in the rear and were not caught in the trap. "When Duke Leopold saw that we had trapped his men, he ran like scared rabbit." He laughed. Yberg said, "He is probably half way back across the border by now!" William Tell addressed the Austrians. "We have promised to spare your lives and accept your surrender. I hath good news for all of ye. I officially declare that thou are all freemen!"

Zeke brought out a pan flute and said, "We are going to sing a song and dedicate it to the new couple!" "Hear, hear!" They sang, "William Tell, William Tell! Lived in the forest, hunted the wood Lived a life that was free. He married one day and for freedom he stood, And was happy as he could be!"

As they whisked over their heads, the rock struck the heads of the scarecrows knocking them to the ground. "Holy cow!" said Zeke and Cedric. "That is really something! We would like to try that too. Could we?" Rupert told them to hop on a hawk and give it a try. Alfred joined them and soon the trio was knocking heads off the scarecrows in a grand manner. "Ride'm Cowboy!" they shouted each time a head rolled to the ground. Rupert said, "The soldiers left and never came back after we gave them a sound thrashing."

He tested the air once again and then focused upon the apple. He released the latch and the arrow sailed across the square and split the apple in half. Walter picked up the two halves and ran into the arms of his father. The villagers embraced one another and cheered as their prayers had been answered.

I did not know where to begin as there was so much to say. I began with the signing of the Rütlischwur and a quarter hour later finished with the Pact of Brunnen. I needed to leave out the part where I was there with Zeke, Cedric, Alfred, and Polly. Chief Wanakuka and his wife, Lanacua came running down the stairway to greet us and offered us hugs and kisses. Many Kakuna elves gathered round. Chief Wanakuka said, "We are happy to see you! What brings you here today?" I explained that we all needed outfits and we were quickly ushered into a fine haberdashery. Zeke and Cedric loved standing in front of the mirror admiring their new look. We purchased Bavarian clothing that would suit our time traveling adventure. They are Austrian knaves no more and will fight for freedom this day. Let us welcome them into the new life they have chosen." Each villager stepped forward and offered a hearty handshake and embrace. "We welcome ye, friend." Zeke found his pan flute and Cedric thrummed a lute. Polly and Alfred joined in. They had set up a target on a sandy beach that stood about fifty meters off. Everyone took a turn at it. Most everyone hit the target and two had found the bull's-eye. William Tell was the last to shoot. He tested the wind with his finger, then unlatched the trigger of the crossbow. The arrow sailed across the beach and struck the center of the bull's-eye. "Hooray!" they yelled. It was agreed that William Tell was the best marksman of the village. Yvaine is my character's name and shooting shiny arrows is her game. Every RPG I've ever played I've always chosen a rogue elf, so I brought her to life for fun-a reflection of my rebellious self.

Art by Nour Hassan and Duy Truong This is a scene from the "Wurtherington Diary." The creature said, "I am an opossum, sir and I am known as Zeke, far and wide." I offered my hand and he licked it. "No, I wish to make you my friend and if you shake my hand we will be friends." I showed him how to do it properly. I told myself that I must remember that Zeke was a mammal and not a human and would not have any understanding of human nature. It was not that easy to do, as up until yesterday, anyone who talked to me was a human. Now I find myself talking to a mouse, an octopus, and now an opossum. I reminded myself that Kira was a strange land and it was my duty to learn the customs if I was going to be of any help at all.

The Wurtherington Diary: The Little Doll Girl. Art by Duy Truong. I peeked from under my leaf and saw that is was a little girl. She was picking flowers. She hummed as she picked," La la la la, la la. I pick flowers for my mama." I could see she was as ugly as the rest, covered with hair like that. There was something human about her though, while she sang and gathered flowers. The others must have had a sudden change of heart. "Ahh!" They all sighed. "She's ugly and cute at the same time. One of us should go out there." "You are kidding?" "You go." "Not me." "I'm not going." "This was Tammy's idea" They all looked at me. YesI was the one who got us into this mess.

An unearthly howl filled the air and echoed across the plain. “Hoooowwwwgggaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!” Two dozen towering wooden soldiers moved from the forest and the royal soldiers saw them for the first time.
