Lake McDonald is the largest lake in Glacier National Park. It is located at 48°35′N 113°55′W in Flathead County in the U.S. state of Montana. Lake McDonald is approximately 10 miles long, and over a mile wide and 472 feet deep, filling a valley formed by a combination of erosion and glacial activity.

I love trails

Here’s a photo of Lake McDonald, located in the state of Montana. This is not only the largest lake in Glacier National Park but also a very beautiful, natural place, surrounded by mountains. The landscape is amazing, even in winter when there’s a lot of snow. In this image you can notice the wonderful, red, twilight colors that are in the clouds and on the mountain peaks and that are reflected on the water as well. In some times of the year people can sit on the dock, just like the woman in the image, and gaze at the amazing northern lights.

The sun peeks through the trees on a gorgeous morning at Emerald Lake. It's hard to believe, but the lake really is that emerald-coloured. There's so many amazing angles on it as well -- particularly because you can walk a full 6km circuit around the lake -- that you can easily spend an entire day exploring there.

Wow! What a difference a month makes. When I visited the Bow Summit in September, the peaks had just received their first dusting of snow. A month later, we hiked through the snow just to get to the lookout, and the snow on the slopes below it made for a perfect spot to have a winter picnic and enjoy the amazing views.

While much of the rest of the Icefields Parkway felt more like autumn than winter, the Bow Summit didn't quite fall into that category. We had to plow through a bit of snow just to park and then were treated to a winter wonderland of frosted trees and snowy tracks on our way up to the Peyto Lake viewpoint. It was one of the highlights of our drive!

It had been raining heavily, even a bit of snow, but as the end of the day approached the Sun made a valiant effort to put in an appearance. This is a view of Mount Grinnell from the Many Glacier Lodge on Swiftcurrent Lake in Glacier National Park. All had become still, the weather was clearing, and the sky was dramatic.

It doesn't get much better than going to somewhere that is packed during the day and finding it completely deserted for sunrise. I had the entire Bow Summit lookout to myself for much of this morning, and that made it feel even more special when the peaks all started to glow in orange, their reflection in the water below. Sure, the water is a brighter blue at midday, but this is truly the way to see Peyto Lake.

An idyllic summer morning at Lake Louise, its perfectly calm waters lighting up a brilliant green in the early morning light.

Moraine Lake was every bit as stunning as it is said to be. This was one of my first glimpses of the lake before I climbed the Rockpile (to the left) and it's still one of my favourites.

It had been raining quite heavily, but as the day was ending, the Sun made a valiant effort to break through the clouds Coming in over the Grinnell Glacier, the Sun shone through the clouds and mist to produce a wonderful glow over the trees in the distance.

The view from on top of the moraine piles down onto the Athabasca Glacier to the Icefields Parkway beyond. Taken as our Glacier Explorer bus made its way off the glacier.

I was walking back to my cabin from McCarthy around midnight on Solstice Eve, and stopped at the view point along the road. The wild roses had just bloomed, and I took a photo of them with the sunset, mountains, glaciers, and McCarthy Creek in the background.
