Snow has fallen on the meadow known as Oxley's Shaw in Tidmarsh, West Berkshire. The brook flowing under the wooden footbridge has frozen and snow covers the footpath l;eading over it. This path joins the villages of Tidmarsh and Sulham with the River Pang just beyond the line of trees in the background. It was in Tidmarsh Mill that Lytton Strachey and Dora Carrington lived for a while, so it became a centre for the Bloomsbuty Set. Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200

Across the lake lie the north walls and towers of Caerphilly Castle (Castell Caerffili) in the centre of the town of Caerphilly, South Wales. Water surrounds this castle in the form of lakes and a moat. The castle was built in the late 13th century by Gilbert de Clare in order to secure this part of Wales from being taken over by the Welsh leader Llewellyn ap Gruffudd, Begun in 1268 - it was immediately attacked! Building was recommenced in 1271 and it is now the largest castle in ground area in Wales and the second largest castle in Britain! Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200

An impressionist view of canal boats moored on the Kennet and Avon Canal just upstream from Newbury in West Berkshire. Next to one of these - a teepee (or tipi). This image was captured on a February walk along the towpath on a (rare) fine day. The Kennet and Avon makes its way from here through Newbury and on through Berkshire to Reading where it meets the Thames. The canal was constructed between 1794 and 1810 to link the Kennet and Avon rivers providing smooth transport between Bristol and London. Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200

A row of old cottages in the ancient town of Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire given a painterly effect. The town, which stands at the point at which Shakespeare's River Avon and the River Severn meet, is famous for its many old buildings - many of them medieval. These cottages stand opposite the Mill Avon river very close to the Abbey Mill and Tewkesbury Abbey itself. Near here the famous Battle of Tewkesbury took place in 1471, decisive in the Wars of the Roses. Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200

The lock at Goring on Thames seen from the bridge linking Goring in Oxfordshire with Berkshire at Streatley on Thames. This is one of the most picturesque places on the Thames, situated at the point where the river flows through a gap between the Chiltern Hills and the North Wessex Downs - known as the Goring Gap. There has been a lock here since the 1500s when a local miller wanted a good head of water to drive the wheel. This was reconstructed as a pound lock in 1787.

Holy Trinity church in the West Sussex village of Bosham which sits near the quay. It is steeped in history, the first church being founded in c.850 on the site of a Roman basilica. It was replaced in the 10th century by Holy Trinity. Significantly it is mentioned in the Bayeaux Tapestry which shows Harold Godwinson and his followers riding to the church. Even earlier, King Canute had a palace in Bosham and his daughter is reputed to be buried under the nave.

After heavy rain, the Thames rushing through Day's Weir near Little Wittenham, Oxfordshire. The Thames Path crosses the river over the lock and weir, carrying on upstream towards Abingdon. Apparently the name for Day's Lock and Weir comes from that of a local Catholic yeoman in the 17th century.

Looking across the Thames to Bisham in Berkshire, England. This view is from the towpath leading from Marlow to Henley-on-Thames. On the far bank is the parish church of All Saints at Bisham which dates from the 12th century. This stretch of the river is famous for its rowing clubs and rowers - particularly Sir Steve Redgrave. Near the church is the Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre.

The footpath crossing the River Kennet at Hissey Bridge near Burghfield, Berkshire, England. Here the towpath crosses the river to the south bank to continue westwards towards Theale. The bridge itself rises over the river as a wooden arch topped with a railing. The Kennet forms part of the 87 mile long Kennet and Avon Canal, constructed between 1794 and 1810 to enable goods - especially Bath Stone - to be carried by boat between Bristol and London via Reading.

St Stephen Walbrook is an Anglican Parish Church which is rich in heritage.and designed by Sir Christopher Wren.

Looking out to sea from the famous 'Agatha Christie Mile'; a coastal footpath that retraces the steps, often trodden by Agatha Christie, on the English Riviera - Torquay.

The new foot and cycle bridge over the River Thames at Reading in Berkshire, England, just upstream from the busy road crossing at Reading Bridge. The footbridge, named Christchurch Bridge as the result of a poll, links Caversham to the north with Reading and in particular the station on the south bank. The name reflects historic links with Christchurch Cathedral in Oxford. The bridge was opened in 2017 by the Mayor of Reading with an inaugural game of poohsticks!

It is at these lower stages of the river that it becomes tidal before entering the North Sea by Felixtowe.
