Description: It is a member of the Sand Knifefishes family and is native to the Rio de la Plata basin as well as other parts of South America. It inhabits deep, murky waters with soft, muddy or sandy bottoms and dense submerged vegetation. It uses its snout to sift through sand and mud for crustaceans, worms, and snails. It can reach a maximum length of 100 cm ( 3.3 feet).
