Definitions of what constitutes the Inland Empire vary; the smallest include just the cities of western Riverside County and southwestern San Bernardino County. Others extend the term to include the Coachella Valley, including Palm Springs. The broadest definitions include all of San Bernardino and Riverside counties. The latter, it's hopefully clear, is the definition depicted with this map.

Chesterfield Square is a neighborhood full of charming if modest Crafstman homes -- one of which belonged to famed special effects man, Ray Harryhausen. It's also the birthplace of Good Fred Oil and home to Antique Stove Heaven. Unfortunately, Chesterfield Square also consistently has the highest violent crime rate in Los Angeles. In 1990, it was where the film, Boyz N the Hood was shot. Orange is a city in North Orange County. Unlike most of Orange County, it boasts a variety of attractive homes built in several eras and architectural styles. It is particularly notable for its Eichler tracts. Manchester Square is a neighborhood in South Los Angeles's Westside. It was home of the notorious Monster Cody and Grim Sleeper. On a lighter note, it's also home to Art's Chili Dog, established in 1939 and said by some to be the birthplace of the chili dog.

Compton is a city in the South Los Angeles region. It is the 7th oldest (by incorporation) and 16th most-populous in Los Angeles County. Future presidents George H.W. and George W. lived there in 1949 and '50. It is famous for the Compton Cowboys of Richland Farms and the Compton Cricket Club, among other things. West Adams, historically, refers to a sub-region of Los Angeles centered along West Adams Boulevard. Today, it also refers to a newer neighborhood of South Los Angeles, also bisected by West Adams. Thus, this map is distinguished as "Historic West Adams."
