The event embodied the theme of California as a focal point for the counterculture and generally is regarded as one of the beginnings of the “Summer of Love” in 1967. Description: Monterey Park is a suburban city in the San Gabriel Valley. It is notable for it's Chinese American majority, although it has undergone changes over the years, from a predominantly Taiwanese Chinese population to a mainland Chinese and Hong Konger population.
