Northumberland (Red)

This image was taken from Blyth beach in Northumberland, looking south towards St Mary's Island and lighthouse which can be spotted on the horizon. It was just before sunrise on a cold December morning, but the colours from the sky reflected beautifully in the wet sand.

The county of Northumberland is England's most northerly and also its least densely populated. This image was taken on a beautiful August afternoon looking west out over the moorland near Newton on the Moor towards the Simonside Hills.

Northumberland Park in North Shields was opened in 1885 and still has many of the old Victorian characteristics including a medieval herb garden, a band stand and a butterfly meadow. This image was shot on a bright spring morning in April and shows the duck pond and terraced gardens.

Northern Exaposure in beauty landscape

Once home to the kings of ancient Northumbria, Bamburgh Castle is one of Northumberland's most iconic buildings. The Bamburgh castle we see today is a relatively recent structure, built by famed industrialist the first Lord Armstrong at vast cost in late Victorian times. Lord Armstrong was also responsible for building Cragside House, Gardens & Estates.

This image was taken from Blyth beach in Northumberland, looking out over the North Sea and one of the groynes on the beach. It was just after sunrise on a cold December morning, but the colours from the sky reflected beautifully on the water and the wet sand making the waves take on a silvery glow in the early light.

Straight Outta Northumberland

A sheep pen in the Coquet Valley of Northumberland, close to Alwinton. In the winter months the hills and fells of the Northumberland valleys can be harsh on the sheep and they are brought to these pens to try and keep them safe.

This image was taken just after sunrise in December from Blyth beach in Northumberland on the North East coast of England.. The marker at the end of the collapsed groyne was captured in the bright sunshine and ships were visible on the horizon together with St Mary's Island and lighthouse

The snow storm has cleared, the blue sky is back, the mist and fog on the hills clearing and it is time to let the sheep back out to graze - Coquet Valley in Northumberland is a beautiful and scenic place to hike, but the winter months can be hard.

This image was captured early June 2015 on a warm summers morning with a view over the entrance to Seaton Sluice harbour, over the beach and sand dunes as far as the Cheviot Hills in the far distance. This beautiful beach is one of many Northumbrian beaches stretching along its coastline from Seaton Sluice in the south to Berwick in the north.
