The 196th Field Artillery Brigade is one of the largest brigades in the National Guard. Units of the Brigade stretch from Chattanooga to Memphis. The 196th Field Artillery Brigade, Tennessee Army National Guard, organized with battalions from Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia, received the alert notification on 3 December 1990, and entered federal active duty on 9 December 1990. On 15 December 1990 the 196th Field Artillery Brigade was federalized with three subordinate battalions [various accounts provide somewhat different dates for Operation Desert Storm

The 54th Artillery Group provided general support for II Field Force Vietnam Artillery and served at Xuan Loc. Later moving to Ben Hoa in 1968. On 18 May 1969 at 01:00 the 7th Battalion, 9th Artillery Regiment and the 2nd Battalion, 35th Artillery Regiment, 54th Artillery Group at the base were attacked by elements of the Viet Cong (VC) 5th Division. Some VC penetrated the perimeter, but were driven back by the artillerymen. The defenders were supported by helicopter gunships, air strikes and AC-47 Spooky gunships. As the action continued a unit of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment arrived and engaged the VC. Fighting continued until 06:00 resulting in 24 VC killed and 14 U.S. killed.

The 23d CBRN Battalion is a Chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosives defense battalion of the United States Army, part of the 2ID Sustainment Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Humphreys, Korea. It traces its lineage back to the 1944 formation of the 23rd Chemical Smoke Generator Battalion in England during World War II. The 23rd was inactivated after the end of the war and reactivated in 1949 as the 4th Chemical Smoke Generator Battalion, serving in the Korean War before being inactivated in Germany at the end of the 1950s. The 23rd Chemical Battalion was reactivated in Korea in 1988.

The 15th Cavalry Regiment is a cavalry regiment of the United States Army. It was one of the Expansion Units originally established for the Spanish–American War, but has been a general workhorse unit ever since. The 15th Cavalry embarked for the Philippines to quell an insurrection in the United States newly acquired territory. The fierce combat in the Philippine jungles against the savage Moros forged the spirit of the regiment in fire and blood; a spirit exemplified in the motto the regiment chose for itself - Tous pour un, un pour Tous (all for one, one for all).

The 149th Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment of the United States Army, provided by the Kentucky Army National Guard. It was originally constituted 22 May 1846 in the Kentucky Militia as the 1st Kentucky Cavalry and the 2d Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. After a year of Federal service (June 1846 to June 1847), it was reorganized on 15 June 1860 in the Kentucky State Guard as the Lexington Battalion (which included the Lexington Rifles). It was then expanded in November 1860 to comprise the Lexington Battalion and the Kentucky River Battalion. On 6 April 1964, the Regiment was converted, reorganized, and redesignated from the 1st Medium Tank Battalion, 123rd Armor Division to the 149th Infantry, a parent regiment in the Combat Arms.

"Buffalo Rangers" The 2nd Ranger Infantry Company (Airborne) was a Ranger light infantry company of the United States Army active during the Korean War. As a small special operations unit, it specialized in irregular warfare. A segregated unit, all of its personnel, including its officers, were African-Americans. Activated and trained as a successor organization to the 2nd Ranger Battalion from World War II, the 2nd Ranger Company was formed and trained extensively in airborne warfare. Deployed to South Korea in December 1950, the company quickly adopted the motto of "Buffalo Rangers" and worked extensively as a scouting force for the U.S. 7th Infantry Division.

The 3rd Chemical Brigade was first constituted on 1 January 1942 as the 3rd Chemical Battalion. It was activated at Fort Benning, Georgia. The unit was reorganized and redesignated as the 3rd Chemical Mortar Battalion on 11 March 1945. It was inactivated on 2 January 1946 at Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia. The unit reactivated at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on 18 September 1950, but again inactivated there on 5 February 1953. On 20 September 1989, the unit was disbanded. The unit reconstituted on 1 October 1999 in the Regular Army and was redesignated as 3rd Chemical Brigade. Command of the unit was transferred to the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command, and activated at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri

Operation Secure Tomorrow is an operation that took place from February 2004 to July 2004 in Haiti. A multinational force composed of the United States, Chile, Canada, and France was deployed in accordance with UN Resolution 1529. United Nations Security Council Resolution 1529, adopted unanimously on 29 February 2004, after expressing concern about the situation in Haiti, the council authorised the deployment of an international force to the country to stabilise the situation following a coup d'état that resulted in the removal of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide from office.

Training recruits The 26th Infantry was reassigned to TRADOC in April 1987. All three Spader battalions spent several years training recruits at Fort Dix, New Jersey and Fort Jackson, South Carolina, until reassigned to the First Infantry Division in January 1996. The 26th Infantry Regiment is an infantry regiment of the United States Army. Its nickname is "Blue Spaders", taken from the spade-like device on the regiment's distinctive unit insignia. The 84th Training Command (Unit Readiness) has a history that reaches back to Abraham Lincoln and the Black Hawk Indian War of 1832. The Division patch was a symbol of that legacy and showed an ax splitting a log for a rail fence, hence the nickname "the Railsplitters." The 84th Division was the famous "Lincoln Country" Division that traced its lineage back to the militia company in which Captain Abe Lincoln served in Wisconsin during the Blackhawk War of 1832.

Designed to be part of a common family of weapons utilising the same chassis components, the M107 and M110 were essentially the same vehicle mounting different barrels. This full-tracked, self-propelled artillery weapon that fires a 200-pound, eight-inch diameter projectile. The shell leaves the muzzle at a velocity of 2,300 feet per second and can travel more than 18 miles.

The Alabama National Guard’s 31st Chemical Brigade was originally approved for the 31st Armored Brigade on 12 August 1974, which was redesignated as a Chemical unit in 2002. “Dixie Brigade,” the unit motto, is a derivation of “Dixie Division,” nickname of the 31st Infantry Division that was a forebear of the 31st Armored and subsequently 31st Chemical Brigades.
