Hastings old town on the Kentish coastline, has a gorgeous little fishing marina where you can watch the fishing boats being towed in and out of the sea with hoards of seagulls flocking overhead, hoping for a morsel or two to get thrown in their direction. Everywhere there are lobster pots and fishing nets, bits of old machinery and equipment lying around. It's a great place to hang out to sit and watch the fishermen at work with the tide laying up on the shingle shore.

The Iceland Gull (Larus glaucoides) is a medium-sized gull native to the North Atlantic Ocean, Europe, and North America. It is a member of the family Laridae, which includes other large gulls such as the Herring Gull and the Lesser Black-backed Gull. This species is also known as the Thayer’s Gull, after the American ornithologist, John Eli Thayer. It is a large, white gull with a gray back, wings, and tail. The head and neck are pure white, and the bill and legs are yellow. The Iceland Gull is a sociable species, often seen in mixed flocks with other large gulls. Its diet consists mainly of fish, crustaceans, and insects.
