Established in 1960, Tower Records was once a retail powerhouse with two hundred stores in thirty countries across five continents. From humble beginnings in a small-town drugstore, Tower eventually became the heart and soul of the music world, and a powerful force in the music industry. In 1999, Tower made a cool $1 billion, yet in 2006 the company filed for bankruptcy before slowly disintegrating before our collective eyes. This design is from the 30-year anniversary celebration of the iconic Sunset Strip location, which opened in 1971 on the northwest corner of Sunset Boulevard and Horn Avenue in West Hollywood. The Record Bar is a former U.S. retail music/entertainment store chain founded in Durham, North Carolina. The company eventually grew from a single location to 180 stores. One of the largest music retailing chains, it was located primarily in the southeastern United States. From 1960 until the late 1980s, the owners were the (Barrie) Bergman family of Durham. In the mid-to-late 1980s, Record Bar began opening large new stores and remodeled Record Bar stores under the Tracks name, to better reflect the changes taking place in retail music merchandising.

The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, better known as A&P, was an American chain of grocery stores that ceased supermarket operations in November 2015, after 156 years in business. From 1915 through 1975, A&P was the largest grocery retailer in the United States (and until 1965, the largest U.S. retailer of any kind). This design features A&P's 1976 rebrand logo which featured a new sunrise effect with a set of colored bands leading up to an offset A&P mark in a new, more modern typeface - the first major update since 1859.

The roots of jazz run deep in Seattle culture. From the '20s through the '50s, the jazz scene flourished in nightclubs along Jackson Street, starting the careers of Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Ernestine Anderson, and many others. If you allowed yourself to follow the sound of these music legends, you'd end up at Bud's Jazz Records — where history could be heard and learned. Listen carefully, though, or you might pass this hidden repository that has been tucked away in a basement suite well below Jackson Street. Far from a polished mega-chain record store, Bud's was the real deal with literally stacks upon stacks of records and CD's that helps them live up to their tagline - Jazz in all it's forms.

The film portrays four teenage girls—three of whom are named Heather—in a clique at an Ohio high school. The film has been adapted into a musical and a 2018 television series is currently in production.

Mac's Famous Bar was a Daytona Beach institution for decades, playing host to everyone from beachgoers and local drunks to race car drivers and bike week attendees. Their prime location right off the beach made them a natural spot for folks to gather after a day at the beach or even during, as Mac's was also a full-service package store selling liquor and beer to go. They were also a spot for the hardcore drinkers, opening at 6 am and offering free bloody marys to anyone who was there when they opened the door. In the early days of racing at Daytona International Speedway, you'd find many of the drivers here after a race (and sometimes before) knocking back a few beers.

Centennial Liquor Store was one of Austin's longest continuously operating retail businesses and a local favorite as a result. Aside from being the go-to spot for liquor, beer, and wine in town, most people will know it from its appearance in the 1993 film, Dazed and Confused. in the movie, it shows up after Melvin asks if Mitch can “run over to the Centennial over there and pick me up a sixer.” Mitch proceeds to play it cool while buying beer at the liquor store across from the Emporium. Of course, that was the movie version of things as the actual Centennial liquor store was located at 6534 N Lamar Blvd and not across the street from the Emporium, but it has since been demolished.

If you grew up in the 70's or 80's you might remember this now defunct department store. I had so many memories going down the rows of toys in this store with my parents growing up. This is a tribute to one of the greats.
