Subtraction Hoodies
Description: Some people have impressive mental-math skills, and absolutely no hesitation about quietly using their fingers for basic arithmetic. It is more common than you think. A basic equation can suddenly become a hands-on activity, with each digit carefully recruited to keep track of the numbers. Addition may be easy until you lose count, subtraction becomes a process of folding fingers down, and multiplication somehow requires a full team of ten tiny assistants. There’s something wonderfully curious about treating your own hands like a miniature calculator while pretending everything is completely under control. It’s a harmless reminder that even the simplest math can become surprisingly complicated when your brain decides to take the day off.

Description: I stare at very simple sums like they are advanced calculus, counting under the table, whispering numbers, and still getting a different answer each time you try and double-check. Basic arithmetic that children master becomes a daily puzzle that defeats me with surprising consistency and confidence, especially when tips are involved and everyone is watching. The humor is in the blunt admission, so bad at doing the very basics that everyone assumes are easy and automatic like breathing. It turns everyday math into a personal dilemma that follows me to stores, restaurants, and bill splitting where my piece of paper becomes my best friend and bodyguard. The comedy here lands because many people feel this shame while pretending to understand.
