A beautiful snowy egret against a black background, preening itself and creating contrasting reflections in the water. The egret was taken at Indian Shores in Florida and is part of a triptych of egrets on black grounds that I have put together with Photoshop , Flaming pear and topaz plug ins.

This is a little bit of Whimsy that I created after visiting Florida recently. I love Roseate Spoonbills, they are such an appealing mixture of beauty and character with their funny long bills and I wanted to try and capture a surreal background to picture them in. I was really impressed by their "Pinkness" when I first saw them and so the overall feeling had to be pink. I know there is no such thing as Pink Mist but please put it down to artistic license and forgive me. I originally posted this on Facebook and Kira Bodensted from Art Universe asked me to post it here, so Kira, this is especially for you.

The grey crowned crane is a bird in the crane family, Gruidae. It is found in eastern and southern Africa, and is the national bird of Uganda. They are beautiful birds about 1m tall with a 2m wingspan. I took this picture in Martin Mere which is a wetlands nature reserve near my home, I changed the background to remove some fences and edited the image in Photoshop and Topaz studio.

The snowy egret is actually a small heron. It's numbers were severely decimated in the 1800's because of the interest in it's plumage. Thankfully, the snowy egret has made a comeback and is now thriving.

Wetlands are vital for carbon storage and flood prevention. Unfortunately, they're also one of our most depleted and degraded habitats. Here is a strutting oystercatcher to celebrate our wonderful wetlands.

A Sandpiper, perhaps a stilt sandpiper, as seen near Naples Florida.

Taken with a Nikon D3500 F/9, 1/200 sec., Iso-100. Edited in Photoshop. It was like a gift that I saw this bird on the bicycle path on the River bicycle path, it was all alone and glorious looking like a prince in some muddy river.

The American Flamingo used to be often called the "Caribbean Flamingo" and was considered a subspecies of the Greater Flamingo, a species found in the Eastern Hemisphere, but most groups now consider the American Flamingo to be a distinct species. The status of the species in the United States is confounded by the popularity of the American Flamingo as a captive bird, and many sightings in the U.S. are undoubtedly escapees from captivity. However, they do nest in Bermuda, parts of the Caribbean, and the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico, so birds seen in Florida and elsewhere in the southeastern United States may very well be wild in origin, especially given a wild population is very close in Cuba.
