Description: Zhang Yimou is a Chinese film director, producer, writer and actor, and former cinematographer. He is part of the Fifth Generation of Chinese filmmakers, having made his directorial debut in 1987 with Red Sorghum. Zhang has won numerous awards and recognitions, with three Academy Awards nominations for Best Foreign Language Film for Ju Dou in 1990, Raise the Red Lantern in 1991, and Hero in 2003; a Silver Lion, two Golden Lion prizes and the Glory to the Filmmaker Award at the Venice Film Festival; Grand Jury Prize, Prize of the Ecumenical Jury and Technical Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival; the Golden Bear, the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Description: "SHU" (蜀) or Shu Han (蜀漢) was one of the three major states that competed for supremacy over China in the Three Kingdoms period, based in the area around present-day Sichuan and Chongqing which was historically known as "Shu", founded by Liu Bei, who claimed himself as the descendants of the Han Dynasty, and thus named his state "Han" as he considered it the legitimate successor to the Han dynasty. The Three Kingdoms (220 - 280 AD) was the tripartite division of China between the states of Wei, Shu, and Wu.
