A rather neglected-looking fishing boat drawn up on the beach at Hastings, East Sussex. Fishing boats have been beached on this area of shingle known as The Stade, an Anglo-Saxon word for landing place, for over a thousand years and the Hastings fleet is now the largest beach launched fishing fleet in Britain. This particular boat though looks a little the worse for wear! This is a digital art image developed from my original photograph.

The Kiekhaefer Mercury company began in 1939 when engineer Carl Kiekhaefer purchased a small outboard motor company in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Kiekhaefer's original intention for the Kiekhaefer Corporation was to make magnetic separators for the dairy industry. The purchase included 300 defective outboard motors. Kiekhaefer and a small staff of employees rebuilt the motors and sold them to Montgomery Ward, a mail-order company. The motors were much improved, so the buyer purchased more. Kiekhaefer designed motors that withstood the elements better than his competition and called the motor Mercury (taking advantage of the "Mercury" Motor Car popularity at the time) whilst adopting the logo of the Roman god Mercury.

In 1948, the first Skeeter Bass Boat was built by Holmes Thurman in Shreveport, LA. It was just over 13-feet long, made of molded marine plywood with a flat bottom and tumblehome side decks. The boats were named Skeeter because their long, needle-shaped nose resembled a mosquito. In the 50s Skeeter became one of the first innovators to use fiberglass in boat construction. Fiberglass made it possible for more sizes and styles to be produced in much larger numbers. Throughout the South, many of these early models are still in use today by avid Skeeter fishermen.

Fornells is a village located in a bay in the north of the Balearic island of Minorca, Spain. Fornells is estimated to have a population of about 1000 people which increases in the summer due to tourism

It's reachable by road and has its own railway station and a hotel. This image was captured on a fine day and has been processed to give the impression of a coloured pencil drawing.

My wife and I visited her brother on Ibiza during 1997. on one of our walks alonga beach we came across this fishing boat, pulled up onto the beach. It is set up to fish using nets.
