A red knight star (Hippeastrum) with a pine decoration. The flowers are typically used as decorations during the Advent and Christmas seasons. Knight stars belong to the botanical family of the amaryllis plants.

Early one morning I contemplated the epiphany of Moses alone in the remote wilderness tending his father-in-law's sheep. There he was attracted to the phenomenon occasionally seen when the heat of the desert causes a random bush to catch fire. Usually short lived, a thin filament of smoke would ascend and it would be over. But, this time the bush kept burning without being consumed and, on Moses' approach to the inexplicable, he began his life-long conversation with the Divine. As the scene played upon my spirit, I picked up my oil pastels and joined the conversation by making these marks. May you also enter the conversation as you live with this drawing.

I found this pensative gentleman sitting outside of an old traditional coffee shop in Apeiranthos village, one of the most beautiful mountainous villages of Naxos island (Cyclades, Aegean Sea, Greece).

Contemplation. A serene Astronaut gazes out into space and turns into his surroundings and is filled with stars. He is becoming space. Stars and nebulae are around him, as he takes a serene posture. This art is the first in a series of two portraits of a contemplative astronaut, We see no face and can imagine it is whomever we want it to be. Copyright Tina Lavoie. All rights reserved.

Vibrant colors and bold strokes dominate the portrait of poet Charles Baudelaire with a contemplative expression. Abstract elements and a graffiti-like aesthetic are used to create a dynamic and energetic background behind the subject.

I mix drawing in oil pastel with pixels and collage images to form a contemplative scene. The minute sprout of life stretches up from the ground of a planet toward the stars of deep space. Faintly in the nebula above is seen the traces of verdant foliage. Is the sprout a descendant of that life far above, or is the vision in the nebula a prophecy of life to come? This composition is also the backdrop for my poem "At This Time," available on another image.
