A charming town, Chania sits in the northwest part of the island of Crete, the largest of the Greek islands. The small, winding streets that make up the old town begin at the old, Venetian harbor. Chania hosts many visitors every year, as the town is served by an airport and is a good starting point for visiting some of Crete's most beautiful beaches of turquoise water. A must visit destiation on your travel to Greece - an excellent vacation any time of year, but best in the summer.

The same small area of protected water behind the breakwater is used for various sailing training and competitions. In season there are many boats visiting Heraklion for far and wide. A key marina facility alongside the ferries and the fishing activities.

Cretan Labyrinth.

I saw a sad-looking statue of the Minotaur (under Theseus, in a pieceby by Canova) in the V&A in London, and was struck by his mostly-human form. I thought he might, like Medusa, seek a better reputation: having been abandoned by his own beastly progenitor (the Cretan bull), imprisoned immediately by a cruel stepfather in a maze-like prison (Minos of Knossos), and forced to kill his only playmates, Asterion (yes, he had a name, the same name as his stepfather’s own stepfather) is now seeking legal representation for paternal abandonment and defamation, and that’s just the start.
