The Eastern Great Egret is a permanent resident at Lake Baroon, Maleny. Very close to my home and has been the subject of some great photos...it really knows how to pose!

I was inspired to do this watercolor painting of an egret in a swamp full of cypress trees, moss and weeds after seeing such scenes in the southern states over the years. This painting is part of my Florida watercolor collection.

The Snowy Egret is a small white heron that is native to North and South America. It is known for its distinctive plumes of feathers on its head, neck, and back, which it displays during breeding season. The bird feeds on fish, and other small aquatic animals, which it catches by wading in shallow water and using its long, sharp bill. Snowy Egrets are considered a symbol of grace and beauty, and they are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Egrets are beautiful birds, especially when a slight breeze ruffles their plumage. This one was actually sitting on a fence when I took the photo and he let me get quite close before gliding away to a more private perch. I decided to try and create a background that would set off the simple beauty of the bird in peaceful surroundings, looking for a last bit of supper before going to roost for the night. This one was taken in Indian shores in Florida, I blended the image in Photoshop CC and Topaz Restyle and Clarity.
