The only Hurricane from the Battle of Britain still airborne today, Hawker Hurricane Mk1 R4118 is widely regarded as the most historic British aircraft to survive in flying condition from the Second World War. Coded UP-W, Hurricane R4118 flew 49 combat missions and destroyed five German aircraft during World War Two, during which period it was rebuilt four times due to sustained enemy fire and a series of training accidents.

The Avro Lancaster was a British Second World War heavy bomber for the Royal Air Force.

Operation Chastise was an attack on German dams by the Royal Air Force in May of 1943. Squadron 617, later called the Dam Busters, used a purpose-built "bouncing bomb" developed by Barnes Wallis to destroy the dams.

RAF Fighter Command was formed in 1936 in Britain to allow more specialised control of fighter aircraft. It served throughout the Second World War. It earned near-immortal fame during the Battle of Britain in 1940, when the Few held off the aerial attack on Britain.

The Supermarine Spitfire is a British fighter aircraft that was used by the Royal Air Force and other Allied countries before, during, and after World War II. Many variants of the Spitfire were built, and it was produced in greater numbers than any other British aircraft.

Used by units under South East Asia Command and in the CBI theatre in 1942. Red removed to avoid confusion with the Japanese hinomaru, but retained on fin flash. Not used for very long before being replaced by light blue and dark blue roundel.

Hurricane and Spitfire aircraft were at the forefront of British defence forces during the Second World War and they are iconic aircraft. I've been inspired to draw these after watching the flypast for Capt. Tom Moore after his efforts to raise money for the NHS and the forthcoming VE Day anniversary.

The Rolls-Royce Merlin is a British liquid-cooled V-12 piston aero engine of 27-litre (1,650 cu in) capacity. Rolls-Royce designed the engine and first ran it in 1933 as a private venture. Initially known as the PV-12, it was later called Merlin following the company convention of naming its four-stroke piston aero engines after birds of prey. The engine benefitted from the racing experiences of precursor engines in the 1930s.
