Minoan art or the art of the ancient Minoan civilization developed between about 3000−1100 BC both on the island of Crete and in several regions of the Aegean and Mediterranean, places where the Minoan influence was strong due to intense trade with powers and nearby people.

Labrys, a double-headed axe that's closely associated with the Minoan civilisation, and specifically with the worship of a goddess. In Crete, the symbol always accompanies female deities and may have been the symbol of their creator Goddess. It may also be interpreted as a butterfly relating to the Minoan butterfly goddesses shown in the shape of a labrys. According to some archaeologists, it was used by Minoan priestesses for ceremonies. Since the 1970s, it's been used as a symbol of independence and self-sufficiency, and strength among feminists and lesbians.The background was created by letting the colors spread under plastic wrap.

The Queen of the Animals, Mistress of the Animals or Potnia Theron is a widespread motif in ancient art from the Mediterranean world and the ancient Near East. The powerful goddess is represented grasping or subduing wild animals and birds.

Yes it's me and Yes I know, that's what everyone does, right? Knossos is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and has been called Europe's oldest city. Settled as early as the Neolithic period, the name Knossos survives from ancient Greek references to the major city of Crete. Thanks to Bill Woodhouse for the photo.
