Great surfbreaks of the world. The Wedge is a world-famous surfing, bodyboarding and bodysurfing spot located at the extreme east end of the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach, California. During a south swell of the right size and direction, the Wedge can produce huge waves up to 30 feet (9.1 m) high. The waves are a by-product of improvements to the groin (rock jetty) on the west side of the Newport Harbor entrance undertaken during the 1930s.[1] When conditions are right, and a wave approaches the shore at the proper angle (most generally a south swell), an approaching wave will reflect off the jetty creating a second wave. Epic Interview - Surfer Dude at the Wedge in Newport Beach

The Wedge in Newport Beach, a wave that demands the utmost from surfers. Reserved for the hardiest, it grinds you into a pulp before you realize what's happening. Formed by the combination of incoming swells and the wash off the jetty, The Wedge creates a massive wedge-shaped wave with a powerful view from the beach.

The Newport Pop Festival, was as held at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California, on the weekend of August 3–4, 1968. It was the first music concert ever to have more than 100,000 paid attendees. Its sequel, billed as Newport 69, was held in Northridge, California, on June 20–22, 1969, and had a total attendance estimated at 200,000. The event's advance ticket sales were triple of what was expected, and it became evident that no area inside the fairgrounds could hold even 25,000 people, let alone the near 100,000 now predicted. In the last three days before the show, it was moved to one of the parking lots of the fairgrounds. Fencing, staging, sanitation, and food concessions had to be organized within just three days.

The Rusty Pelican first opened their doors in 1972 on Newport Beach's Mariner’s Mile. Named after a pelican spotted on a jetty one afternoon, The Rusty Pelican has always been about fresh caught seafood. In the early days, fresh fish including swordfish was caught from local waters and brought into the restaurant’s back doors. Eventually, the local catch was joined by fish from waters off of the coast of Hawaii, South America, Alaska and the South Seas, all of which was delivered fresh within 24-hours.
