It is cold here and snow is forecast for later tonight and tomorrow. Just to cheer up myself and the rest of you who are feeling the cold, here are some lovely flowers from last summer in Vogrie Country Park in Midlothian, Scotland.

Synonymous with Scotland, the Highland Cow, or Hielan Coo as we would say, can be seen all over the country. This one is a resident at Newparks Farm in Muiravonside Country Park, near Linlithgow, Scotland. Newparks Farm, which has a variety of domestic stock consisting of rare breeds and exotic animals and birds, is open to the public all year round, a wonderful place to bring children! Highland cattle (also known as Hairy Coo or Hielan Coo) are an ancient Scottish breed of beef cattle with long outward spreading horns and long wavy pelts coloured black, brindled, red, yellow, or dun. The small weir on the river Avon taken from the top of the Avon Aquaduct in Muiravonside Country Park, near Whitecross, Falkirk District, Scotland. Muiravonside Country Park. Formerly an estate owned by the Stirling Family of Falkirk, this 170 acre park comprises woodlands, parkland and the River Avon. At 810 feet long, Avon Aquaduct is the second longest in Britain and lifts the Union Canal 86 feet over the River Avon. The spectacular views from the top make the climb worthwhile. This little wooden covered walkway is situated under the Almondell Viaduct (built 1820) in Almondell and Calderwood Country Park, West Lothian, Scotland. Its sole purpose is to stop pedestrians being dripped on from the viaduct above. The park is a semi wild nature retreat open to all. This is an HDR version. The river Almond in Almondell and Calderwood Country Park, West Lothian, Scotland. The park is a semi wild nature retreat open to all. We have had so much rain this year that the trees and shrubbery are a verdant green; branches are very full and overhanging the river. The water is a deep brown as so much silt is being washed down because the rain has hardly stopped this summer. Three bracketed JPGs converted to HDR in Photomatix Pro.

The Clydesdale is a magnificent horse, recognized for its strength, style, and versatility. One of the heavy draft breeds, the Clydesdale originated in Scotland in the eighteenth century.
