The ruin of Armadale Castle on the beautiful Isle of Skye, Scotland. In 1855 fire destroyed much of the original house which was partly replaced by the present central block designed by David Bryce. Today, the original part of the castle is a sculptured ruin and the wonderful gardens contain a fine selection of plants from around the world. A view over Skye to the Storr on the beautiful Isle of Skye, Scotland. The Storr is a rocky hill on the Trotternish peninsula of the Isle of Skye. The hill presents a steep rocky eastern face overlooking the Sound of Raasay, contrasting with gentler grassy slopes to the west. The Storr is prime example of the Trotternish landslip, the longest such feature in Great Britain. The area in front of the cliffs of the Storr is known as the Sanctuary. This has a number of weirdly shaped rock pinnacles, the remnants of ancient landslips. One of the most famous of these is known as the Old Man of Storr. I said there would be more of these. ;) This was taken on the penultimate evening of our stay on the Isle Of Skye, in Scotland. The clouds on Skye seem never ending and continuously changing. We watched these altocumulus clouds for over an hour, as they morphed from long cigar shapes to lenticular, flying saucer shapes. This was one of the few times we could see the tops of all the Cuillin mountain range across Loch Eishort. It was a fascinating evening.

One of the more famous sites on the Isle Of Skye, in Scotland, is the Old Man Of Storr. The Storr is a rocky hill on the east side of the Trotternish peninsula. The Old Man, the tallest of the rock pinnacles on the Storr, is easily recognizable from many miles away on the eastern side of Skye. The area is another remnant of ancient landslides (locally called landslips) on the island.

The Cuillin (Scottish Gaelic: An Cuilthionn) are a range of rocky mountains located on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, and another in neighbouring Rùm. The true Cuillin are also known as the Black Cuillin to distinguish them from the Red Hills across Glen Sligachan. The Red Hills are lower and, being less rocky, have fewer scrambles or climbs. Generally they receive less attention than their higher neighbours. The highest point of the Cuillin, and indeed the Isle of Skye, is Sgurr Alasdair in the Black Cuillin at 992 m (3255 ft). Duntulm Castle looking out over Tulm Island and the hills of Harris in the distance. Duntulm Castle stands ruined on the north coast of the Isle of Skye in Scotland near the hamlet of Duntulm. The main structure of the castle, about 25 metres by 4.5 metres, was built in the 14th and 15th centuries. A tower was added in the 17th century and an additional house, 10 by 5 metres, a little later still. The castle was abandoned in the early 1730s. According to one local legend, the castle was abandoned after the infant son of the chieftain who dwelt there at the time, in the charge of a nursemaid, fell from a window and was dashed on the rocks below. As a punishment, the nursemaid was set adrift on the North Atlantic in a small boat. The ruins...

This view of the Cuillin Mountains at sunrise, on the Isle Of Skye, in Scotland, was taken on our second morning there. It had snowed the night before on the upper elevations of the Cuillins, leaving a fresh coat of powder that we would not see again on that trip. This was the first time the clouds lifted enough so we could see the entire Cuillin range. At times, we even had trouble seeing Loch Eishort in the foreground.
