Valley of Fire State Park is a public recreation and nature preservation area covering nearly 46,000 acres located 16 miles south of Overton, Nevada. The state park derives its name from red sandstone formations, the Aztec Sandstone, which formed from shifting sand dunes 150 million years ago.

This view, in south east Nevada, of Whitney Pocket, reminds me of the orange and vanilla Popsicle 50-50 bar, also known as the orange Creamsicle. This sandstone mountain was shot from New Gold Butte Road, southeast of Mesquite, and northeast of Valley Of Fire State Park.

Appropriately named, this is one of the many fragile rock formations in the Valley Of Fire. This is how it looked in March of 2010. No doubt it's eroded a bit since then.

One of the popular trails in Valley Of Fire State Park, Nevada, White Domes Trail is fairly moderate. This descent looks steep, but is easy. The ascent, back to the parking lot, is gradual. Make sure to take some water in the summer, this is the desert after all.
