What do you get when you mash up hot rods and monsters? In 1980, the answer would have been Weird Wheels trading card stickers. Featuring a checklist of colorful creations along the lines of the late '60s Odd Rods cards, the set blends Kustom Kulture with matinée horror. The cards themselves have monsters and other creatures driving absurdly customized cars, trucks, and motorcycles. As cool as the cards looked, they came out at a time when the Kustom Kulture was well past its peak, and the set flopped, but that doesn't mean they're still not cool! This one features the 'Hot Rabbit' in his triple drive wheel hot hatch from card #2.

A goofy cat character trips along in his "Bag of Tricks", a custom '32 Chevy roadster hot rod. His spirit protector hood ornament, a flying eyeball tribute to the Kustom Kulture founding fathers, acts as wayfarer. This is my homage to Felix the Cat, more specifically the 1953 TV show reboot, designed by Joe Oriolo, and Felix's heritage as the mascot for Felix Chevrolet in Los Angeles, California.

The classic Tri-Five Nomad, hello 50s!

Post-war America was hot rod and kustom crazy and in the early '50s, Lee Plastics of Detroit stepped up to deliver something the masses very much wanted – Custom crafted taillights! Utilizing precision vacuum formed plastics, Lee developed an extensive line of direct bolt on taillight replacements for just about every popular make and model of American car. Lee Plastics kept this up throughout the '50s and '60s, but sadly closed up shop and didn't make it into the '70s. Today, Lee Plastics unique taillight lens designs remain highly sought after by hot rodders to run on their cars or just sit on a shelf as a collector's item and can fetch pretty high dollars.

Claiming to be ‘smooth as a tigers tread’ and comprised of 100% pure Pennsylvania crude, Power-Lube was popular with motorists and a common sight at service stations across the U.S. throughout the ’30s and ’40s.
