Great War Long Sleeve T-Shirts

I made a recent visit to the World War One battlefields in Belgium and France. The poppies were in abundance on the Somme battlefield sites...a poignant yet wonderful sight.

In 1915 Georg-Günther Freiherr von Forstner, commander of submarine U-28, saw something unusual off the Irish coast. Shortly after torpedoing the British steamer Iberian, something within the sinking vessel exploded. Along with debris from the doomed Iberian a gigantic marine creature was thrown skywards - an animal which the astounded German captain could only liken to a goliath crocodile, and something that sounds very-much like a prehistoric marine reptile such as the 20 meter-long pliosaur Kronosaurus, which was the wolf of the sea 99 million years before the U-Boat came along. Whether there is any truth in this supposed sighting of a prehistoric monster, it certainly captures the imagination and deserves a teeshirt. And so do you!

The statue 1101, locally known as Tommy is of a First World War British Tommy, striking a pose of tiredness. Tommy sits on the seafront at Seaham Harbour in County Durham and was recently voted the best art work in the UK. Here the image has been enhanced with the important words 'Lest We Forget'. The stone poppy is recreated each year on the approach to Remembrance Sunday and differs in style.

One of the great moments in history was the Christmas Truce of 1914 during the World War one.

Inspired by the battle flag of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry during the War of 1812 while commanding the USS Lawrence. "Don't Give Up The Ship" were a paraphrase of the dying words of Captain James Lawrence, the ship's namesake and Perry's friend.

Winston Churchill - Let Us Go Forward Together

Today is the 100th anniversary of when Britain joined World War One. The lights will go out across Merseyside at 10pm tonight to commemorate the event. A virtual candle will be projected onto the Liver Building at 10pm. It will fade away at 11pm and be replaced with info-graphics about World War I. It is inspired by then-Foreign Secretary Sir Edward Grey’s famous remark on the eve of the outbreak of war: “The lamps are going out all over Europe; we shall not see them lit again in our life-time”. Britain declared war on Germany at 11pm on August, 4, 1914, ushering in one of the darkest periods in the country’s history.
