If you ever visit Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), you should visit the central post office. The building is a remnant of the French colonial days; a remarkable piece of architecture constructed in the late 1800s. This is an image that captures some of the detail of the wall and high curved ceiling in the main hall in the building. The hall speaks eloquently of its European heritage, but at the far end is a giant portrait of Ho Chi Minh to remind you where you are. What I love about this image is architectural grace it has captured and the wonderful colours. That colour scheme is continued on the outside of the building.

A walk in Amsterdam brings me to the doors of the main post office building, neo-gothic and redbrick, turrets and towers, shadows cast. I savour the joy of being in the city once again, to hear the tram bells and the cries of seagulls, to inhale the aroma of frying, of roasting coffee and the gentle hint of brine that lingers. A day of freedom awaits, a day to explore the alleys and the shops, alone, unhurried. For now I look up at the post office, transfixed by the symmetry. This work is very rich in realism and detail. It is a fantastic souvenir of Holland, a great gift, a perfect addition to any collection of Dutch art.

Save The Post Office

This is an image of the Tintagel Old Post Office. Calling it a post office is perhaps a bit of a misnomer as it served as such for just a few years during Victorian times. The red post box attests to that with its "VR" marking. but pre-dates that era by about 500 years. Today, it is owned by the National Trust and preserved by them for future generations. I've been to Tintagel, which is in Cornwall, England, several times and have always been fascinated by this unique old building. I captured this image on a cool, blustery day. The turbulent sky looked so right as a backdrop.
