Reid Long Sleeve T-Shirts

As an infant I was taken hand in hand down this street, wrapped up and scared of the Victorian infant school that was my destination. I could hear the bells of the Minster peel over the rooftops, soon to become my lost universe. I wanted to stay at home, or at least limit my outing to the delights of the ice cream shop in the North Bar, or the tudor tearooms where I would get cakes. I wanted to peel away to run around the supermarket that sold toffees and to Woolies for cheap toys. In later years I returned to this magical place, to paint, to explore. And I dream it might once more become my refound universe. The work focuses on the corner of Lady Gate, the name itself dripping with fascination.

On a day of crisp spring, I arrived at the vineyard. It seemed Spanish, ancient, a place of delicious shade and a splash of mystery. A fountain splashed playfully, Tivolian in beauty. And despite the shade, the light was intense in places, white. The walls, ochre, orange, brown, merging in colour. A place to sip fruity, rich, deep wine. A place to spend time, to linger, to contemplate. This work is rich in detail and light, a perfect souvenir of California.

The quote straight from the coach's mouth!

A row of Victorian houses, the pinnacle of English solidity, faces the sea at Clacton. The sky is blue, full of brine and ozone, a tinge of vinegar and frying chips. Seagulls sing and crow, and from the sea comes the gentle sound of waves. Childhood memories, Proustian triggers of colour and taste, happy innocence, infantile joy and freedom. I was struck by the colours of the houses, by their height and stature. Decades of history preserved in brick, of grandeur and fall.

As an infant, I was marched to and from school past the corner where the Regal no longer stands. In rain or in sun, the corner represented the last, or the first, gasp of freedom from the red brick stone tyranny of the school. I was fascinated and a little scared of this huge, semi-derelict Art Deco building, doors already boarded, the screen silver no more. And one day, as I returned as a man, my boyhood over, the cinema was gone, as though perhaps it had never been there at all. This work is a lovely souvenir of Beverley, and a great gift too.

I made this for purely self indulgent reasons, because I wanted a sticker of a sweet lil tamagotchi Louis.

A typical London scene. By the side of a Victorian canal, where nature breaks out in a riot of green, a man heads up the steps, to greet his friends. Where next for him? The pub perhaps, for a Saturday afternoon late lunch. Or maybe a Camden cafe for a slice of chocolate cake. London is beckoning him with a million possibilities. The sky and bricks radiate heat. There is a scent of mulch, the gentle hum of buses. An ideal souvenir of London.

A walk through Paris, and as usual I spot the Eiffel Tower, appearing on the horizon, a beacon and a symbol. For most Parisians, an everyday occurrence, but the sight of this icon always fills me with childish excitement. Greenery, shade, sky, elegant and unaffordable buildings mix. The simple joy of being in Paris. The work is a cheerful reminder of the City of Lights. A perfect gift.

The sign outside says Men Only. It intrigues me, in this neighbourhood of transience and movement. I look up at the Americana, the fire escape and redstone, the neon, and the patch of sky. It is an evocative scene, and I wonder about those who enter and leave here. This work is unusual, colourful and striking and makes a great addition to any collection of American works, and a great gift too.

This work depicts a street corner in London, a place made remarkable by its eclectic architecture, a place of magic where turrets pierce the blue sky, garrets and glimpses into a dozen private worlds. I marvel at the contrasting colours, reddish and ochre Victorian brick, seeped in hundred year old soot, and smooth walls of burgundy plaster. The work is rich in colour, in realism and makes a perfect gift of London.

I wanted this work to radiate heat, a heat that energises and whitens and purifies. I wanted this work to include shadows, shade, little corners. shutters of blue painted wood. The shop is closed, perhaps it is Sunday, or lunch time. There is peace here, just the scent of meat stew, the blossom of peaches and apricots and oranges. A lovely addition to a kitchen wall, or a perfect house warming gift.

A favourite spot of Edinburgh, a row of purple-hued tenements hugging the edge of the Meadows, their shape and colour accentuated by the late afternoon sky, filled with pink swirls, clouds of marshmallow, candy floss and Turkish Delight. The sky and trees remind me of the western fringes of Scotland, where the air is scented with brine and seaweed and pine, a place of magic, of Celtic sorcery. As with most corners of Edinburgh there are jolts of memory too, of student parties decades ago, in large drawing room flats, wooden floors bedecked with threadbare imitation Persian rugs, old armchairs in garret windows with tantalizing views. A place of enticing aromas, the fragrance of curry, dal, spice. A place of special occasions and memories full of love and affection and longing. The work owns an eerie, wintery light, of late afternoon, as darkness begins to summon its strength. This small work is full of character, it is original and a perfect memory of London.
