Cuchara is a charming, mountain village tucked away on the scenic byway 12 aka The Highway of Legends. There’s a quaint, one short street downtown area, consisting of several colorful shops, some lodging and a couple of restaurants. The town was established in 1883 and is at an elevation of 8,650 feet, situated on the eastern slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in south-central Colorado. Cucharas Pass, at almost 10,000 feet, is just a few miles south of the town. It's peak hiking season people! Time to hit the trails in search of adventure! My latest minimalist icon features my favorite road sign. When I see it, I know I'm in the right place!

I didn't eat here while touring around Socorro, New Mexico but from what I've now read online, I should have. If traveling through the area again, I certainly will. Sydney and Nautical Flags © Debra Martz I saw this sign and the flags spelling out the name SYDNEY at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion while waiting to board the ship. Nautical flags are made with a sequence of 26 flags to represent a letter of the alphabet. There are also ten numbered flags, one answering pendant, and three substitutes or repeaters. When on an ocean of large body of water, they may be used as signals such as *S or Sierra - engines are going astern or * Y or Yankee - I am dragging anchor, etc. But here, they simply spell out the name Sydney. ©Debra Martz, All Rights Reserved 20231011-40-45_992-Edit-2.tif

Nothing better than leaving the hectic driving of the Interstate and slowing the pace. And the best part is finding things like this that you can actually turn around the car, and pullover safely to take a photograph. Wonderful back road highway driving in Oklahoma!! Roosevelt, Oklahoma on hwy 183 to be more specific. Since the old tires had been repurposed into this larger than life sign, I added some textures and distressed markings to give it a vintage feel.

Cool Street sign I photographed in Austin, TX.

Big Easy Daiquiris and Pizza Bourbon Street by Debra Martz I enjoyed an early morning walk on Bourbon Street and other French Quarter Streets nearby while there were no crowds. While on this stroll, I took pictures of my favorite signs and several are places I actually went to later. I did not make a stop but I saw more than one of these places in the French Quarter; at least 3 or 4.
