Impressions of Dungeness The Old Lighthouse is a historic Grade11 listed building, constructed in 1904 and decommissioned in 1960 when a new lighthouse was built closer to the ever increasing coastline and to compensate for the building of the nuclear power station. Dungeness is formed mostly of a shingle beach in the form of a cuspate foreland. Cuspate forelands are also known as cuspate barriers or Nesses. They extend outwards from the shoreline in a triangular shape and in the case of Dungeness are stabilized by vegetation forming a unique eco system.
