This beautiful merry-go-round is located in Castaway Cove, Ocean City, NJ. It was made in Italy and is all hand painted. This carousel is surely one of the prettiest on the Jersey Shore.

This is the ferris wheel of Luna Park, Melbourne. (Australia). I shot this through the main gates, as the park was closed to the public. It reminded me of when I used to go as a child, there was really nothing more exciting than a theme park, carnival or anything that had show bags to take home! We humans will do the craziest things for a thrill. This amusement ride literally has you hanging by a thread while you swing out into space going round and round. Using a wavy, multi-colored background I tried to convey the dizzying feeling you must experience while on this ride.

The Ferris wheel is sometimes called the Chicago Wheel as it was constructed for the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago.

Back in the 1100’s, Arabian and Turkish horsemen played a game on horseback. They took it very seriously, so seriously that Italian and Spanish crusaders who watched, described the contest as a “little war” or garosello and carosella respectively. Old Turkish drawings show part of a carousel’s use as a way to practice cavalry riding skills. The riders must knock off the hat of a man standing holding a stick. It was probably considered a man’s combat training more than an amusement ride. The crusaders brought the game back to Europe where it became, in time, an extravagant display of horsemanship and finery that the French called carrousel.
