Crass were an English art collective and punk rock band formed in Epping, Essex, England in 1977 who promoted anarchism as a political ideology, a way of life and a resistance movement. Crass popularised the anarcho-punk movement of the punk subculture, advocating direct action, animal rights, feminism, anti-fascism, and environmentalism. The band used and advocated a DIY ethic approach to its albums, sound collages, leaflets, and films.

His Hero Is Gone was an influential American neo-crust band from Memphis, Tennessee. The band formed in 1995 from members of Copout, Man With Gun Lives Here, Union of Uranus, and FaceDown. Characterized by heavily distorted 'thick sounding' guitars and lyrics featuring social commentary, including anti-consumerism, the band had a solid following, but always remained under the radar of a mainstream audience. His Hero Is Gone released a total of six records and toured the U.S. extensively, as well as stints in Europe and Japan, and disbanded in 1999 after playing their last show in Memphis.

Amebix were an English crust band. Formed as "The Band with No Name", Amebix's original run was from 1978 to 1987, during which time they released three EPs and two full-length LPs. The group reunited in 2008 and disbanded again in November 2012. By being one of the first bands to blend anarcho-punk and heavy metal music, Amebix are often cited as one of the key bands that helped to create the crust punk style, and are considered as a proto-thrash/extreme/speed metal band. Such notable bands as Sepultura, Neurosis and Deviated Instinct have paid homage to the band.
