The '70s were packed with concerts of epic proportions. Massive, multi-day events with a veritable who's who of rock n roll. The CaliFFornia World Music Festival was one of these legendary happenings. Held in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and surrounding grounds on April 7th and 8th in 1979. Despite 'world music' being in the name, the festival was entirely focused on rock. With MC duties performed by celebrity stoners, along with parallel entertainment including everything from a battle of the bands, a rock ’n’ roll movie theater, food fair, arts and crafts marketplace, and skateboarding exhibitions, the CaliFFornia World Music Festival was a packed event.

Grateful Dead began its career as the Warlocks, a group formed in early 1965 from the remnants of a Palo Alto, California jug band called Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions and members of The Wildwood Boys (Jerry Garcia, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, David Nelson, Robert Hunter, and Norm Van Maastricht).

Bay Area Music was first published in January 1976 as a free bi-weekly magazine that was funded by advertisers and covered the Bay Area's eclectic music scene. In the mid-'80s, BAM opened an office in Los Angeles, leading to separate Northern and Southern editions of BAM being published, and its largest circulation of 130,000 biweekly throughout California. The final edition of the print magazine was published in June 1999 with the paper's circulation at the time of closing was 55,000.

KMET was a Los Angeles FM station that broadcast at 94.7 MHz beginning in June 1968. As with many stations at the time, KMET featured an automated format with female voices and middle-of-the-road music, but eventually added live DJ's and a free form rock music format. Major changes came about in 1974 to create something new for the struggling station by way of a new rock format that retained some of the station's progressive freedom, but added much needed energy and consistency along with high production values. KMET's new format quickly rose to number one, earning them the nickname "The Mighty Met." The station continued to rock the valley through the '70s and most of the '80 before signing off on February 14, 1987.

The Newport Pop Festival, was as held at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, California, on the weekend of August 3–4, 1968. It was the first music concert ever to have more than 100,000 paid attendees. Its sequel, billed as Newport 69, was held in Northridge, California, on June 20–22, 1969, and had a total attendance estimated at 200,000. The event's advance ticket sales were triple of what was expected, and it became evident that no area inside the fairgrounds could hold even 25,000 people, let alone the near 100,000 now predicted. In the last three days before the show, it was moved to one of the parking lots of the fairgrounds. Fencing, staging, sanitation, and food concessions had to be organized within just three days.

Three Dog Night is an American rock band formed in 1967, founded by vocalists Chuck Negron, Cory Wells, and Danny Hutton. This lineup was soon augmented by Jimmy Greenspoon (keyboards), Joe Schermie (bass), Michael Allsup (guitar), and Floyd Sneed (drums). The band had 21 Billboard Top 40 hits between 1969 and 1975, with three hitting number one. Three Dog Night recorded many songs written by outside songwriters, and they helped to introduce mainstream audiences to writers such as Randy Newman ("Mama Told Me Not to Come"), Paul Williams ("An Old Fashioned Love Song"), and Hoyt Axton ("Joy to the World", "Never Been to Spain").

Sis Broadcasting bought WRNA-FM, which was number 10 in the market, and switched it to WROQ with a format of "adult rock". People complained that WROQ did not play "harder" rock like WRNA, instead playing a mix of Top 40 and "more esoteric numbers".[5] Among those who apparently did not like the change was operations manager Walker, who left for WRPL in April 1973. However, WROQ went to number five "on a cumulative basis" in the metro ratings after four months. Progressive rock on WROQ was limited to simulcasts of In Concert on ABC on some Friday nights and a Saturday program.

The Canyon was a magical place, home to some of the best of American folk and rock music throughout the sixties and seventies.

This is a marquee from the Phoenix Theatre in Petaluma, CA where I spent nearly every day as a teenager seeing 100's of amazing bands over the years. They have wonderful programs for the community, Phoenix Open Door- seven days a weeks, skate ramps inside, School of Music, Teen Health Clinic, and On the Job Mentoring Program.
