Canadian Magnets
Description: Hidy and Howdy were the official mascots of the 1988 Winter Olympics held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. These friendly, anthropomorphic twin polar bears—dressed in western-style cowboy outfits—symbolized Canadian hospitality and the spirit of the Games. Created by Sheila Scott of Great Scott Productions, they appeared on Olympic signage, merchandise, and as costumed performers who greeted visitors throughout the event. After the Closing Ceremonies, Hidy and Howdy retired from public appearances, making only one notable return in a cameo for the 1993 film Cool Runnings
