This image, originally captured on film in the autumn of 1987, depicts the Ashness Bridge, in the Lake District National Park, in England. This is a popular spot for capturing images, but it has changed over the years as the view across to Skiddaw, the mountain in the distance, is now restricted by the abundance of trees that have grown. This image, therefore, represents an historical view. The bridge is a traditional Lakeland bridge, in that the arch does not contain a keystone. Within the park, there are many 'pack horse' bridges such as this, mostly built during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. One of the most visited places in Bangkok is the Wat Arun temple complex, which consists of the five magnificent prang structures and the various buildings. This image, captured on a wonderfully clear, almost cloudless day, shows the multi-tiered gable ends of two of the buildings. I must say that I was really drawn to those gable ends, they are so ornate. While this kind of rooftop embellishment is common on many buildings throughout Southeast Asia, these were particularly fine.

This image is of the trains and rolling stock of the Toronto Railway Museum, which is located in Roundhouse Park, near the CN Tower. It was an incredibly clear winter's day with just a bit of snow on the ground, I was really taken with the juxtaposition of the old railway equipment with the gleaming, modern tower buildings behind. What really made it was the appropriately named Steam Whistle Brewery, just on the right, which is in the old roundhouse building.

This image, originally captured on film, is of the Sun setting over Lake Huron. My vantage point was Pioneer Park in Bayfield, Ontario. Sunsets are a bit of a spectator sport in Bayfield. All along the cliff that overlooks the lake, people gather in the hope of seeing something splendid. It's the clouds that can create the spectacle, be they strongly backlit with golden edges or deeply black when already shaded by other clouds. The slow but ever-changing interplay of the sunlight with the clouds provides not one image but a progression of awe.

This is a view of the waters above the Morrison Dam, near Exeter, Ontario, in the autumn of 2020. It was an incredibly clear, calm day. The leaves on the trees were resplendent in the colours of the season. The calm waters on the lake made for this perfectly reflected vision of autumn beauty.

This is an image of just a few of the many, ninety-one, stupas (chedis) within the Wat Pho temple complex. These stupas are incredibly ornate with porcelain pieces embedded around their surfaces in very intricate patterns, each of which is topped by a small spire. I understand that at their simplest, stupas are a simple earthen mound that is faced with stones, but these take the art form to a new level. They are stunning.

While visiting Southeast Asia, I was really taken with the incredibly ornate roofs on the more distinct and culturally important buildings. While the roofs were wonderfully patterned with contrasting shades of orange, red, green, and other colours, the gable ends almost always had these sculpted end pieces, all coated in gold. I was told that the characters depicted snakes, but to me they looked like single-horned antelopes, but who am I to know. In capturing this image, I really liked the backdrop of the wonderful cloud formation beyond; the roof looked so proud against that backdrop and yet had a sense of peace.

A sunset in Makarska, Croatia. We spent a long time roaming around this fantastic island, from the markets to the harbour and over to the beach. My mates and I decided to keep walking beyond our village and found the part of the island with all the exclusive hotels. Sunsets are a bit of a spectator sport in Bayfield. All along the cliffs and beaches that overlook the lake, people gather in the hope of seeing something splendid. It's the clouds that can create the spectacle, especially after the Sun has set. Here, the wispy clouds have turned black against the still vibrant sky, and the pier has become silhouetted against that same sky. The slow but ever-changing interplay of the light with the clouds set against the wonderful deep blue to red-orange gradient that is the sky, continues to provides not one image but a progression of awe.

The Rosette Nebula (NGC 2237, Caldwell 49) is the large hydrogen, sulfur and oxygen gas cloud in the constellation of Monoceros. The open star cluster NGC 2244 (Caldwell 50) consists of stars being formed from the nebula. The nebula is 5,200 light years away from Earth.
