Desert Storm Magnets

One of my cartoons honoring the fourth Marx Brother. You may have heard of Groucho, Chico, and Harpo but until you've served in a Patriot unit you've never heard of a clown named Commo.

In August 2006, the brigade deployed for 15 months to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where they were responsible for detainee operations and convoy security at Camp Bucca, along with detainee operations at The Baghdad Correctional Facility (Abu Ghraib). The Unit also worked with Task Force 131 at Camp Victory in Baghdad, Iraq. The brigade was awarded its fourth Meritorious Unit Commendation for the outstanding mission accomplishments in Iraq.

I painted this around 2005 during the 2nd Gulf War. It is a M1A1 Abrams tank in a splatter of oil. According to the news article that I got the reference photo from it was being used by British forces in Iraq.

The collateral damage, the human cost. It reflects my attitude about the war at the time. My respect to all those who sacrificed and payed the price of war and were affected by it.

The 94th Field Artillery Regiment is a field artillery regiment of the United States Army, first constituted 1933 in the Regular Army. As the 94th Field Artillery Battalion, the unit served with the 4th Armored Division during World War II. After some service as a constabulary force in Germany, the unit rejoined the 4th Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas, and in Germany. Under the CARS and USARS since 1957, regimental elements have served with the 1st Armored and 4th Armored Divisions in Germany and at Fort Hood, Texas; with the 108th Artillery Group in Vietnam; and with the Berlin Brigade in Germany. Units of the regiment have earned campaign streamers in World War II, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and the War on Terror.

The 44th Medical Brigade participated in numerous campaigns and operations other than war. Elements of the Brigade participated on Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada in 1983, Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989-1990, Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in southwest Asia (including Saudi Arabia) in 1990-1991, Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti 1992, as well as humanitarian assistance to St. Croix, in Florida following Hurricane Andrew, and in the US Virgin Islands following Hurricane Marilyn.

The M110 howitzer first entered service with the U.S. Army in 1963 and was used in the Vietnam War by the United States Army. Later versions were used in the Gulf War - Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm by Tango Battery 5th Battalion 11th Marine
