According to tradition, St. Bernard's Well near Stockbridge in Edinburgh, Scotland was re-discovered by three Heriot's school boys while fishing in the Water of Leith in 1760. Legend has it that it was originally discovered by Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, the founder of the Cistercian Order, in the 12th Century. After being poorly received at court, and suffering from a sickness, he went to live in a cave near the Water of Leith. There, he found the spring and drank its healing waters until his strength returned. Chemical analysis revealed that the water was similar to the sulphur springs at Harrogate in Yorkshire. In September 1760 the mineral spring was covered by a small wellhouse.

This imposing English Heritage building on the seafront of Teignmouth in Devon, UK, was built in 1826 and used as assembly and reading rooms for the gentry. Later it was turned into a cinema complex - and recently 5 big luxury holiday appartments were added on the top.

This image was originally captured on film in 1982. I went to the ancient city of Korinthos in 1972 and then again in 1982. Nothing much had changed. Those ancient monuments had survived another 10 years, and continue to do so. This particular ruin is apparently that of the Temple of Apollo, which, it seems, had many more columns in ancient times. That aside, you have to marvel at the extraordinary architecture, the aesthetics. Even in its ruin, it is such a delight.

Bowood Lake Number of views as of 8th May 2019 = 675. The Bowood Estate (Wiltshire, England) adjoins the village of Derry Hill, midway between the towns of Calne and Chippenham. The estate consists of a grade 1 listed Georgian country house, park land, lake and gardens designed by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown. This autumnal scene includes the 'Doric' temple folly across the other side of the lake, almost hidden by the trees. Date: 1st November 2014.
