In drought stricken central Kenya in September 2017 an African elephant (Loxodonta africana) resorts to scraping grass from the dusty plain to eke out a meal. He spends hours kicking the dirt with his toenails. He gathers up the grass threads and shakes them free of the abrasive soil that would otherwise grind down his teeth. He gets six sets of teeth in his lifetime and when those are gone he will starve to death.

We have just come through bad drought in Australia and other areas are now experiencing similar conditions which will only get worse with climate change. Just wanted to do another one that draws attention to drought. The background is a collaged texture work and the text has been digitally added.

Early Morning at Great Salt Plains Lake by Debra Martz We enjoy going to the Great Salt Plains State Park in Northern Oklahoma and staying a week or two in our RV. We like getting up early and checking out the the sunrise from a variety of locations. The sun was slow to show its light due to heavy cloud cover but it finally started breaking through those clouds. The lake is terribly low due to drought.
