The Squigglies get busy in the Spring garden, digging and scraping the soil, planting pea seedlings for an early harvest, starting new seeds in trays, and watering a pot filled with pretty flowers. Giving away a Martenitsa is an old Bulgarian custom to celebrate the end of winter. The small red and white jewelry will be given away to friends, family and loved ones on March 1st and will bring happiness, health and a long life. The Bulgarian lucky charms are worn on the wrist or on the clothes until you see a first sign of spring, for example a stork, a swallow or a blossoming tree. When the time comes, you can put the martenitsa under a stone or hang it on a tree and make a wish.

I was in Charleston, West Virginia when I came across the state capitol. What an impressive building. With elements of Greek and Roman architecture, it stood so proud in the early spring light. This panoramic image is the product of three images, stitched together, to make this perspective challenging view of the building.
