Description: "We had to struggle with the old enemies of peace--business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering. They had begun to consider the Government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs. We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob.” - Franklin D. Roosevelt
Description: At Madison Square Garden, 3 days before the 1936 election, President FDR called out "the old enemies of peace - business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering", saying "We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob", and "They are unanimous in their hate for me - and I welcome their hatred." Can you imagine any politician today talking like that? The full audio is on Youtube.
Description: Design is from a vintage re-election campaign button for Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Since Roosevelt was re-elected 3 times (1936, 1940, 1944) for President of the United States, I'm not exactly sure which campaign this button was for, but I suspect it is from the 1940 campaign. The 1940 campaign was special because it was the first time that a President ran for a third term.
