Alexander the Great solved the Gordian Knot. I think he cheated a little...at least in some versions of the story. The phrase “cutting the Gordian knot” has come to mean a bold solution to a complicated problem. This graphic is actually Haken's Gordian Knot. With the proper manipulation this 'Knot' can be turned into just a circle.
