Formline is an indigenous art made by the First Nation people of Northwest coast of North America. The term formline is invented by Bill Holm. We use the word since 1965, but the art is many hundreds of years old. The idea is to create a flowing continuous line with increasing and decreasing thickness. We get negative spaces with a dominant black outline. The negative spaces are filled with formline type ornaments or elements. The main forms are ovoids, U forms and S forms. With these forms the artist composes a complete formline.

The wasgo, or sea wolf, is a mythological creature of the indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest coast of Canada. It is part whale and part wolf.

This Thunderbird is in the style of Kaigani people, a subgroup of the Haida. The original was found on the internet and redrawn.

The Thunderbird mythology crosses cultural and tribal barriers. He is found among the Pacific North West and North East cultures as well as the Plains Indians. Some tribes view the Thunderbird as an omen of war. Others see him as a solar animal and the penultimate natural spirit. He often takes pride of place atop the magnificent totem poles of the northwest tribes along the Pacific Coast.
