First bred in Tibet over a thousand years ago, they were treated as holy as many Buddhists believed they were the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama. They were the watchdogs and companions to the humble and the powerful and are a treasured breed to this day.

The German Shorthaired Pointer is a distinctive-looking speckled gun dog with high intelligence and an overabundance of energy. Sometimes called "velcro dogs" they are extremely loyal and friendly with both people and other dogs. Just be mindful of their physical needs, these little guys are ready to go go go!

The Tibetan Mastiff is an ancient breed originating over 5,000 years ago in Tibet. They are loyal, sure-footed, and excellent guard dogs. Standing 26 inches at the shoulder and weighing well over 100 pounds, these giants are only made larger by the extreme amount of fluff they grow. Little is known about the Tibetan Mastiff before 1800 in which Captain Samuel Turner mentioned these “huge dogs” in his memoirs. They’ve often been gifts to world leaders such as the Queen of England and President of the Unite States. Despite it’s age, the breed has only recently been recognized by the American Kennel Club, where it was added to the Working Group in 2007.

Just kidding, this lion-like dog was bred as a regal companion for kings by Heinrich Essig in Leonberg, Germany. They’re bred from the Saint Bernard and the Landseer Newfoundland so the first ones were actually black and white. The goal of a regal status symbol breed was met, as famous owners of Leonbergers include King Edward VII, Napoleon III, and Tsar Nicholas II. Leonbergers were also favored by composers including Richard Wagner and Sergei Rachmaninoff. Nowadays the Leonberger is a much-loved family dog who is gentle and happy as a companion and diligent as a watch dog. Considered a giant breed, it can stand over 31 inches at the shoulder and weigh as much as a full grown man!

Standing at an average of 30 inches tall, these rough-coated sighthounds were originally bred by native Scots to take down the wild red deer. Historically, they were known as the Royal Dog of Scotland and have earned a reputation as brave, regal, and noble. They’re an affectionate breed, although they have a strong prey drive so not always recommended for homes with small animals or small places like apartment because of their size. A Scottish Deerhound is happiest running over hill and dale, exhibiting their brilliant physique and noble bearing like the lords they are.

The Boston Terrier is known as the American Gentleman because of their tuxedo patterned coat. Originating around 1875, they are the first US breed to be recognized by the United Kennel Club. They are very smart, easily trained, and very popular as city pets because of their small size.
