June Bug Magnets

A June bug! These big heavy red-brown beetles show up in Maine almost exactly on June 1st every summer. You can hear them every night thunking their big hard bodies against the windows as long as the lights are lit, and the sound brings happy summer vibes, rather than being annoying. As a kid, I loved catching them.

June Beetle Insect Bug Wiinjiig ᐐᓐᒌg Ojibwe Indigenous WAWEZHI CANADA

Featured in: Airplanes & Airports Sculpture outside of the Curtis museum. Glen H. Curtis built and sold motorcycles, race cars, airplanes and sea planes and he also built the first travel trailer. His airplanes and airplane motors where use by the US military in WWI and WWII. The US Navy name a WWII warship the USS Curtis in appreciation of all his efforts. Curtis' June Bug made the first kilometer flight on 4 July 1904. The Curtis Museum is located on the site of that flight in Hammondsport, NY USA and well worth a visit.
