During its heyday, it hosted many famous entertainers of the day, most notably the Rat Pack and Jerry Lewis.

It was the second hotel-casino resort to open on the Las Vegas Strip.The motel was mostly two stories, with some rooms on a third floor. It included 105 rooms at its opening, and an additional 100 would be added later. The property included a casino, a Western-themed Last Frontier Village, authentic Old West buildings, the Gay Nineties Bar, The Little Church of the West and the El Corral Arena, used for rodeo events. The village also featured a Texaco gas station designed by Zick & Sharp. The Silver Slipper casino was added to the village in 1950. Eventually the resort evolved into the New Frontier and then later simply the Frontier. Businessman Howard Hughes bought out the group in 1967
