Peter Davison was the fifth Doctor. Since his predecessor, Tom Baker, was the Doctor for eight years, the fifth Doctor was developed almost in absolute contrast to the fourth Doctor. He was more cautious, more serious, younger and less eccentric. He wore a Cricket uniform. If you're not familiar with Cricket, it has a very preppy, trim look to it, like something you'd see at a private Country Club. The only eccentric part of his wardrobe was the celery that he pinned to his lapel, but even that had a purpose, as he claimed that it would turn purple in the presence of certain poisonous gases. David Tennant wasn't the first Scottish actor to be the Doctor. And Peter Capaldi wasn't the first Scot to play the role with a Scottish accent. These honors go to Sylvester McCoy. He was the Doctor from 1987 to the shows cancellation in 1989 after 26 seasons, though technically he was the Doctor until 1996 when he appeared briefly at the beginning of the Doctor Who TV movie before regenerating into the 8th Doctor, Paul McGann. As I've argued before, the cancellation shouldn't be blamed on the 7th Doctor. He was brought in only after the ship already hit the iceberg, so to speak. Time and relative dimension in space

Peter Capaldi’s first episode as the Doctor was funny, tense, and very different from previous Doctors. This scene stuck out to me, so I painted it immediately afterwards. The texture of the scene. The gravity of two men unsure of their identity...unsure of who was the monster.

I made this on the question: What does the Doctor see when he/she sees a reflection? Existentially, it must be complicated when you've regenerated so many times and had so many faces. This is one of my most popular pieces online, which means that it had some controversy. Particularly the fact that I seemed to have left the 9th Doctor out. I wanted to include Eccelston. I also wanted to include all the other Doctors, but it wasn't feasible, so I left Easter eggs instead. Apparently, that wasn't enough for some people and they thought I was trying to erase the 9th Doctor from the canon, which is just stupid.

I have been a fan of Doctor who since the 70s. Over the past few years i have done a series of Paintings from Space and time to pop art splat. This is part of the Pop Art series which is based on the swirl of the time vortex. The original painting that these images come from are much bigger and in a Wide screen style. To use these for T shirts etc I have cropped the design and modified them from my original paintings.

One of the running themes in Doctor Who is the tendency to write in little moments that represent the actors' real personality. With David Tennant, they gave him an episode in Scotland so that he could speak with his real accent. With Matt Smith, they gave him a scene where he schooled everyone in a game of soccer, as Smith was nearly a professional footballer. Peter Capaldi used to play guitar and sing in a punk band back in the late 70s or early 80s. Hence, this awesome scene.

Improv through time and space.

This is based on a promo picture for the ‘Listen’ episode in Series 8. This was one of my favorite episodes. As someone with a long history of sleep walking and talking to strange shadows in my sleep, this episode really freaked me out. It also set the foundation of the Doctor’s ‘no weapon’ approach to saving the universe, not to mention, we got our first glimpse of the Doctor as a scared child on Gallifrey. This is one of my biggest paintings. I wanted a painting that looked into the Tardis. Initially, I wanted the Doctor to have his hand out-stretched, beckoning me to join him. But I wondered too much if I was worthy of such adventures. I have struggled with social anxieties a lot and have found it too easy to retreat into myself (and into shows like this). So instead, I had the Doctor look as though he was considering me - Are you ready to follow the Mad Man in the box? Are you willing to conquer the real world? Some day.
