Description: Lorimar Productions was founded in 1969 by Irwin Molasky, Merv Adelson, and Lee Rich, with startup funding provided by Adelson. The company’s name combined that of Adelson’s wife, Lori, and Palomar Airport in San Diego. Initially focused on made-for-TV movies, Lorimar found major success with The Waltons in 1972, paving the way for a string of hit television series throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The studio became a television powerhouse with shows such as Eight Is Enough, Falcon Crest, Knots Landing, and especially Dallas, one of the most popular dramas of its era. Lorimar remained active into the early 1990s before being acquired and absorbed into a larger entertainment company.
