Cedar Waxwings Migrating North by Debra Martz We were at Paradise Pond in Port Aransas, Tx and I was tracking a Magnolia Warbler with my lens when my husband Doug called out, "Look up!" And of course, I did!! This is just a portion of the very large flock of Waxwings that flew over us. Happy to have seen this but sure would have been nice if they would have decided to circle around and land in a tree nearby. Obviously to early in the day to stop on their northbound migration on this day, May 14th. Cedar Waxwings are a shiny collection of brown, gray, and lemon-yellow, accented with a subdued crest, black mask, and brilliant-red wax droplets on the wing feathers. Beautiful Snowy Performance by Debra Martz I could not believe what I was seeing on this particular morning. I've watched Snowy Egrets "fish" for many years. They position themselves in an area and watch the water closely before probing for a fish as they see it go by them. But on this morning, several Snowies were leaving the peninsula and half running, half dragging their feet while stirring up some fish and then would nab on the go! Break Time for Pewee by Debra Martz It was a bird watching day that for the most part included dolphins playing in the ship channel, tons of dragonflies all over and around Paradise Pond along with a healthly bunch of Red-eared Sliders...when finally, a bird!!! American Avocet Minimalism by Debra Martz While I was busy keeping my eye tuned to a few certain Pelicans, I saw something coming from the corner of my eye. Two small Avocets flying into the scene; so small compared to the huge White Pelicans but so similar with their underbody of white and black wing tips. Tree of Vultures by Debra Martz It was the end of September and fall migration was in full swing. I go to the Great Salt Plains State Park quite often for bird watching and I've taken some photos of birds in this old, neatly shaped dead tree in the past. But this was the first time I had seen it outlined with the migrating Turkey Vultures. A group of sandhill cranes migrates along the Atlantic Ocean coastline to their preferred nesting areas in the Florida wetlands. Cranes are highly migratory, traveling thousands of miles each year to their breeding sites.

My front garden over looks the viaduct in Tavistock and as I’m high up on a hill I get a good view of the moors and also the various birds that pair up on the phone lines. Since we are heading out of lockdown I thought this would be an appropriate time to cut this block..... did you know that some birds ( swallows in this print ) pair up year after year. If they survive migration they return to their nesting ground and find each other. Family members, hunting pals and partners all wait patiently for that first sight of there loved one after a year of absence.
