I infect and devour bacteria for a living mom. It is not a phase mom. I am just a phage. Seriously though, these bacteriophages are such badass critters. They are a whole bunch of bad news wrapped in protein. More Biology T shirts here

This pattern is composed of bacteriophages (viruses that infect bacteria and archaeans). The bacteriophages (or phages) depicted are phage Lambda, and the t4 bacteriophage, both of which are important both to science and to terrestrial ecosystems.

This bacterium was isolated from the human intestine and is normally a part of the human and animal microbiota. Most E. coli strains are harmless, but some strains can cause serious problems such as food poisoning, urinary tract infections, traveller's diarrhea and nosocomial infections. The E. coli 0157:H7 strain is fatal to humans if contracted when contaminated meat is cooked inadequately. Magnification: x8,000 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.

Bacteriophages are viruses that infect bacteria; T4 is specific to E.coli. It is secured to the surface of the cell by spidery tail fibres. The tail, a contractile sheath, shortens to allow a syringe-like tube (below base plate of tail) to enter the cell membrane, emptying the DNA contents of the head into the bacterium.
