NOT MY IMAGE - This is a restoration, of sorts - trying to take a VERY small image, and see if I can turn it into an image large enough to be able to print - I used an image that is in the Creative Commons / Public Domain, so no trademark or copyright laws are in place to make anything an issue. Changes were made to the image to accommodate for distortions that happened as a result of the image scaling process.

This is a great reproduced and digitally restored vintage propaganda poster from the US National Wartime Nutrition Program with the heading "Food is a weapon, don't waste it!" This poster served as a public service announcement during World War II to make sure people bought food cautiously, cooked it cautiously and ate it all.

During the 1940's, the United States Government recruited young women to help join the war effort by becoming nurses and members of government agencies. This poster created originally by Carolyn Edmundson is a fine example of art put together with the need for more nurses on the warfront. Cross of a little known order of hospitallers and knights from the Middle Ages. Why should you be interested in it then? The Lazarites were not only engaged in a fight for the Holy Land - their main mission was to take care of the lepers in the hospital in Jerusalem. The unusual thing is that the lepers were, at the time, feared like the fire itself, and few were willing to look after those unfortunates, in fear of being infected. The Order of the Lazarites looked after them nevertheless, spreading knowledge about isolation of infectious diseases in Europe and giving rise to the word lazaretto, while also contributing to the development of modern, by the standards of those times, hospital facilities. A big achievement, and the green cross.
