Description: Artist Illustration of a watercolor I painted captures the towering Muffler man statue, adorned in a yellow hardhat and work overalls, standing tall along Route 66 in Gallup, New Mexico. The sun sets behind the colossal figure casting a golden hue on the rusted metal frame, while the arid desert landscape engulfs him in solitude. The wispy strokes of color blend seamlessly, creating a sense of movement and depth to the painted image.

Description: Artist illustration of a watercolor I painted depicts the iconic Cadillac Ranch on Route 66 near Amarillo Texas. Rows of rainbow-colored Cadillacs stand partially buried, their gleaming fins pointing skyward. A bright blue sky filled with fluffy white clouds provides a striking backdrop to the playful and whimsical scene. The loose brushstrokes and soft washes of color capture the dreamlike quality of this unique roadside attraction.
Description: A charming vintage graphic from Knott's Berry Farm featuring a covered wagon, horseback cowboy with frying pan, and bold berry-themed branding. Description: If you traveled through Pennsylvania Dutch country anytime from the 50s until the late 90s, you likely noticed signs advertising Zinn's Diner and their authentic Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine. If you followed the signs and got off the turnpike, you probably recall the larger than life figure of Amos, a stereotypical Pennsylvania Dutchman standing near the entrance to welcome you inside for some Wunderful Gudt food or maybe to keep you company while you waited outside for a table. While Zinn's is nothing but a memory today, you can still enjoy many of their signature dishes at the Park Place Diner and if you want to catch up with Amos, he was last seen standing around at Hershey Farm Restaurant & Inn.
Description: Sanibel Island, Florida is located along the Gulf of Mexico, just a short drive from Fort Myers. While this tropical paradise justly famed for its sunsets, lighthouse, resorts, and sea shelling (it is known as the 'Seashell Capital of the World'), for about 30 years, there was another, slightly more unique attraction -The Sanibel Island Hippo Gardens. What started as a private estate with a couple of pet hippos in the '50s, ended up being somewhat of a roadside attraction with a dozen hippopotamus in the '60s. As the story goes, when the owners passed away, they left their estate to their only son, who eventually began operating somewhat of a private zoo amidst the property's extensive tropical gardens.

Description: Post-war America and new super highways brought about a new-found interest in traveling, so roadside diners started popping up in key locations from coast to coast. One such place in Elkton, Maryland on the freshly completed US 40 was the Elkton Diner, a modern deco style eatery which also played host as a Trailways bus stop. Positioned almost dead center between New York and Baltimore, Elkton Diner was a popular stop for highway travelers for years before being consumed in a fire in 1962.
Description: A secular pilgrimage long dreamed of and finally arrived, a place of wonder, of longing fulfilled and reawakened too. It felt so vast, that I could travel for days, weeks even and never reach the end. My own American dream was formed by 1970s dramas, films, books and fantasies, a land of palm trees and long streets, of huge cities where I could lose myself in a maze of teeming neighbourhoods of promise. Having arrived, finally, jet lagged and redolent of long haul travel, I set out to explore this promised land. I fell in love with the signage, tatty, dated, a reminder of my own 1970s American dream. This work is rich in bright colour, youthful and joyful, with close attention to detail. A great gift, a wonderful collection starter.

Description: The Dog Houses comprised a chain of very small restaurants around L.A., often on a piece of land that also held a large car wash. I’m going to guess that was the idea. Someone said, “Hey, let’s design a little restaurant that can fit in a spot that doesn’t seem big enough for a restaurant and where people have to wait around for their car to be washed.” And then someone else said, “Uh, like a hot dog stand?” And the first person said, “Kind of…but let’s make it a little more upscale so we’ll get the business of folks who think they’re too good to eat at a hot dog stand.”around the corner from world famous Pink’s.
